Increasingly popular with consumers, crocodile skin is omnipresent in the collections of luxury labels. But given the price of this precious skin, not a single centimetre must be wasted! That is why, despite its narrow format and stiffness, crocodile tail is used for certain very specific applications. “80% of our sales are used to produce belts,” says a representative from Italhide. “It is a less noble part than the belly or the sides, from which belts can also be cut. But it costs half the price.” “We also offer tail skins from relatively young animals,” explains another expert, from Whiteline. “It can be used for watch straps, decorating hand bags and interior design. The problem is that there is a lot of wastage.” Some designers appreciate it for its very wild appearance, which comes from its raised scales. Indeed, 10% of items made from crocodile tails use the upper part, the prolongation of the back, despite its very bumpy texture. “We offer caiman tail which is even more bony. It is really spectacular,” adds a professional from Sibel. With crocodile leather, everything is beautiful!
