The Updating survey, conducted in April-May 2019, canvassed selected international buyers to determine the essential products to inject into your spring summer 2020 collections now.
A spring-summer 2020 season marked by sunshine, a desire for cheerfulness, in full, dazzling colours, worked in assertive monochrome silhouettes, in plains or patterns. Warm colourways are energized by synthetic, mentholated or acidic accents.
Already making strong incursions in recent seasons, eco-responsible commitments continue to grow, and more and more brands are recognizing the vital need to make pro-ecological choices: already broadly involved with respectful and ethical production, they are now growingly focused on a search for recycled fibres and bio-sourced materials.
Three key directions mark the season’s silhouettes:
On the one hand we see the importance of comfort, with supple materials and lots of fluidity in handles and drape. An elegant casualwear, where viscose is a key ingredient to impart suppleness, and softer linen blends featured in outer-layer garments and denim.
On the other hand, there’s an urge for neat looks, with sharper, more structured silhouettes, straight cuts, snapping cottons, compact silks and lighter suitings, lent a touch of refinement with feminine and evanescent tops.
An absolute must, athleisure continues to influence fabrics and materials, integrating performance qualities (waterproof, windproof, anti-bacterial, etc.) and even accessory details and key items such as ultra-light raincoats.
Preferred patterns are fleetingly abstract, with colourful dilutions bringing refined liveliness to wardrobes. Tie-dye and subtly iridescent graduated shades are a popular alternative to graphic scarf prints, imbricated geometrics and stylized vegetation.
