Kawaei, Silken Rainbows

It is in a region known for centuries for their textiles, where the water of Mount Fuji has famously contributed to sericulture, that Kawaei atelier works with silk. The aesthetic properties of this natural fiber, offering a brilliant sheen and smooth texture, provide bright colours which are well-liked in the industry and have led Kawaei to explore them further.

In collaboration with a dyeing establishment, the workshop has developed a “rainbow” silk thread, composed of six filaments of extreme delicateness (less than 2.5 grams per kilometer). Each one is soaked in a different dye bath before being spun together. This specific technique leads to incredible color combinations and an ability to play with multiple nuances of the same color while maintaining the typical weight of a single silk thread.
From February 16-18, 2016, Kawaei participates in Maison d’Exceptions, the space at Première Vision dedicated to haute création.
