“Classic Blue” is the 2020 Pantone Color of the Year. This deep and thoughtful blue was selected as it represents stability and dependability. It is a sign of a return to the classic.

Arguably, few things are as classic as denim; it is staple in any wardrobe. However, re-interpretation is necessary even in the steadfast world of denim. A report by Global Technology Research predicts the denim market will grow by more than 14 million USD by 2024.

As we in the industry are well aware, denim production requires high water and chemical usage. The environmental footprint left behind by the industry is of increasing concern to consumers. For these reasons, the denim trend will continue to be sustainability. The re-invention of the season will focus on a responsible supply chain.

Market influencers are also stepping in. The Kingpins have tightened requirements to attempt to dispel greenwashing not only from their events but also from the denim community. The Kingpins will require exhibitors to become aligned with a set of goals: to produce without hazardous chemicals, establish CSR standards, and to track and present their progress.
