Blossom PV: At the heart of silk with Les Tissages Perrin

In the lead up to the next Blossom show – the can’t-miss event dedicated to the Spring-Summer 2023 pre-collections – the Première Vision team shines a special light on the expert know-hows and excellence of its selected exhibitors.

Today, a talk with Jean-Hugues Perrin, Sales Director of  Les Tissages Perrin, a French manufacturer of exceptional silk fabrics.

An exceptional French silk maker

Located in the Rhône-Alpes region, the historic birthplace of the French textile industry, Les Tissages Perrin has specialized in the production of silk fabrics since 1929.

A leading French weaver in this sector, Les Tissages Perrin is distinguished by its advanced technology, innovation and exceptional know-how, all of which influence and shape its fabric offer for accessories, ready-to-wear, lingerie and swimwear.

In addition to their own collections, Les Tissages Perrin propose multiple creative and customization options, thanks to their design studio and their Grand Art weaving atelier.

“Since 1929, Les Tissages Perrin has been following and perfecting two principles: working with natural silk and striving for perfection in terms of quality.”

– Jean-Hugues Perrin, Sales Director of Tissages Perrin.

Première Vision: What is behind the strength and longevity of Les Tissages Perrin in today’s silk industry?

Jean-Hugues Perrin: Since 1929, Les Tissages Perrin has been following and perfecting two principles: working with natural silk and striving for perfection in terms of quality. Even if Les Tissages Perrin now employs a more diverse range of raw materials, often in blends – silk and cashmere or wool or silk and viscose for example – it is the rigorous nature of our culture and our heritage that allows us to remain unique in our field. We are extremely focused on doing things well and making beautiful things!

PV: How does the company manage to stay at the forefront, both in terms of technology and the industry’s evolutions and trends?

J-H P: That’s a subject for endless discussion! But briefly, I see 3 equally significant strengths that we must monitor, nurture and respect.

The first is the high technical level of our in-house skills. All our departments – production, creation and innovation, quality and industrial intelligence, sales, human resources – must combine interest, curiosity, boldness, originality, expertise, proximity and service in all areas, related to technology, people or the environment.

The second strength is a concentrated presence of a complete chain of industrialists who, like Les Tissages Perrin, are the top experts in their fields, in materials, yarns, dyes, and finishes. Progress and innovation are born from these interactions.

The third strength, the one that motivates us the most, comes from our customers. Thanks to our integrated creative cell, we pool all our knowledge so as to cater to the ideas and requirements of our customers. This is often where the fabrics of the future – the new techniques, the new fields of application –  are born.

PV: Why did you choose the Blossom Première Vision show to unveil your pre-collections?

J-H P: We like to talk about our creations, our collections and we want to share with our customers their feelings, reactions and ideas.

The Blossom show lets us perfectly reconcile these two objectives by providing a place for us to exhibit our articles in a calm, professional setting while also allowing us to better imagine the future of the collections with the designers.

The dates of the Blossom show are just right for the debut of research into materials, special effects and color themes.

We could say that the Blossom show sets the pace for our in-house work readying the collection, and then, later on, allows us to perhaps better orient the collection as a whole.

PV: Can you tell us about an innovation or a material presented at the next Blossom Première Vision show that your company is particularly proud of?

J-H P: If it were just up to me, my choice would be a piece-dyed, 100% silk twill or satin that’s about as near to perfection as you can get on every level. It’s of a very high technological level, and something to be proud of.

However, the design department has also been telling me about a cut-thrown and calendared jacquard fabric, with a liquid effect, in fluorescent colors!

These two examples illustrate our know-how and our capabilities. We also are rounding out our pre-collection with GOTS certified organic fabrics. Les Tissages Perrin has been involved for many years in strong and concrete environmental initiatives.
