For Spring-Summer 2028, Pioneer Denim explores the evolution of denim codes through new silhouettes and expressive possibilities. A research-driven approach that brings together contemporary culture, archival heritage and textile innovation, under the creative direction of Sue Barrett, with Maurizio Donadi contributing to the exploration of washes.

Deeply rooted in memory, denim continues to evolve through its dialogue with the present. For Spring-Summer 2028, Pioneer Denim develops MOTION PULSE, a collection that interprets the changing dynamics of contemporary life through new shapes, proportions and treatments.

Movement becomes the key to understanding a landscape shaped by evolving habits, passions and forms of social interaction. From run clubs, where physical activity intersects with a sense of community and belonging, to fandom culture and the energy of rave culture, the research draws inspiration from emerging rituals and translates them into diverse expressions of denim. Alongside these influences, a renewed interest in craftsmanship and utility emerges, together with the rediscovery of familiar aesthetic codes, reinterpreted through a contemporary lens. These references take shape in a variety of silhouettes, from relaxed straight fits and wide legs to modern bootcuts and barrel shapes, alongside more tailored constructions. Proportions interact with the intrinsic characteristics of the fabric, balancing structure and flexibility, while research into stretch and comfort expands the possibilities for fit and freedom of movement.

Denim retains its authentic character while opening up to interpretations that go beyond the traditional boundaries of casualwear.

Colour and surface treatments further define the collection's identity. Clean indigos and new shades of blue sit alongside mineral and natural tones, while sun-faded and washed-out effects, frosted surfaces, overdye treatments and tonal finishes bring depth and nuance to the fabric. Under the creative direction of Sue Barrett, these explorations connect with a reinterpretation of archival references, spanning the 1960s to the early 2000s. The archive becomes a source of inspiration for rethinking proportions, details and garment identity.

The collaboration with Maurizio Donadi broadens this perspective through an exploration of the TRANSNOMADICA archive, from which a selection of washes has been developed for the collection. Denim heritage thus becomes a design resource, capable of inspiring new interpretations while preserving the material's lived-in character and authenticity. The research also extends to fabric composition and finishing processes. Recycled cotton, including PCW and PIW, TENCEL™, viscose and next-generation fibres are combined with wool and silk blends and lighter constructions, expanding denim's possibilities in terms of hand feel, comfort and performance. Laser, ozone and enzyme technologies contribute to more controlled finishing processes designed to reduce resource consumption. The objective is to make circular materials and lower-impact technologies increasingly viable at industrial scale, following the principle of From Innovation to Scale without compromising product quality.

The same focus on the value of what already exists informs Re-made Craft, a capsule collection that reworks existing Pioneer garments through upcycling and artisanal techniques, giving them new purpose and possibilities for use.

With MOTION PULSE, Pioneer Denim brings together contemporary culture, heritage and innovation to explore the possibilities of denim, from fabric to finished garment. A research-driven vision that places quality and versatility at its core, guided by the principle of less but better.
