The Spring-Summer 2024 season sees a growing opposition between the real and virtual worlds. Our previous article on accessories, Luminous Vibrations, explored how the digital realm is influencing the look of textiles and leathers.

Yet on the flip side of the spectrum, we see a return to things that are earthly, a feeling of tangible substance, in the collections. A natural quality that strives to retain the intrinsic qualities of materials, rather than distorting them through repeat transformations.

Materials are thus subtly worked: non-dyed plain wovens have visible structures, while knits and wovens draw on ancestral crafts. In leathers we see dense, firm handles, for durable products that develop a patina over time. These are in line with an ecological approach as well, and favor vegetable tanning and finishes with a reduced chemical impact.

Raffia & Jewels

Raffia, a plant fiber native to Madagascar, is most commonly associated with hand-woven baskets.

Today, its shaggy look gives rise to all sorts of voluminous growths and protrusions, inspiring designers of every stripe. For Spring-Summer 24, this original rustic style is juxtaposed with bright colors and precious accessories.

Slingbacks are the season’s dress shoe, with a strappy high-heeled look that transports raffia into a sophisticated, feminine universe. Contrast is what makes them so modern, with combinations of neutral and bright colors, matte and shiny finishes, smooth and textured handles.

We can find the same kind of contrasts in a whimsical bucket bag.
A smooth leather in a subtle, summery color is adorned with a glittery chain. Its precious quality is offset by a flap closure consisting of a covered buckle and a long raffia fringe.

Firm leathers

This natural quality is expressed differently in leather.
Season after season, tanneries strive to outdo each other, finding new and ingenious ways of elaborating softness, fineness, prints, embossings, laser-cutting and more.
In contrast to this quest for ultra-sophistication, we see proposals for dense, smooth and matt leathers. They pay tribute to the intrinsic qualities – purity, strength, durability – of skins dedicated to leather-goods. Flawless renderings that demand superior know-how, and extremely high-quality skins.

Today, to reduce the impact of leather goods, designs must derive from the actual qualities of the raw materials.
Here, the firmness of the leather allows for a geometric design, without resorting to reinforcements.
The perfect structure of the central body of the bag is contrasted by a rope base, for a note of refined rusticity.
