“There is no Planet B!” This widely known statement takes on particular resonance after a scorching summer. A stark reminder, if one were needed, that we must urgently reduce all environmental impacts responsible for global warming.
To this end, ECOPEL is continuing its virtuous transition and giving PLA-based fibres every chance to shine: a promising biopolymer derived from the sugar component of plant residues. While PLA itself is not new, it is already used in highly specialised applications such as 3D printing and certain medical devices, its use in fur is entirely innovative.
Seven years after opening the era of bio-fur with its first bio-based option (37% corn), ECOPEL’s new bio-furs are now entirely plant-based. Their backing is also made from a polymer capable of degrading, providing a consistent textile offering that is truly eco-logical.
For ECOPEL, intensive fur farming has never been an acceptable option. Yet demand for fur that is neither animal-based nor made from conventional polyester has never been stronger. This dual requirement takes centre stage in the Planet PLA video, a poetic 30-second film in which the animal world and the new generation meet, symbolised by a child and a fox rising towards new plant-based horizons.
