Maximilien Durand, Musée des Tissus et des Arts décoratifs de Lyon, au salon Maison d'Exceptions 2/2

(English subtitles available)

« I am Maximilien Durand and I am director of the Museum of Textiles and the Museum of Decorative Arts in Lyon. Our interest in a presentation like Maison d’Exceptions is in seeing the concerns of designers today in terms of textiles and how designers seek to renew textile creation, whether through mastering traditional savoir-faire – like in the case of Japanese katagami, an ancestral stencil printing method – or renewing design through new materials, even registering new patents.

Many exhibitors are greatly inventive. It is very interesting for us. Textiles are a material that constantly innovate. I believe that we have a strong will to preserve this reality in our collection, so it always bears witness to the most exceptional dimensions of design.

What enters into our collection is inalienable, imprescriptible and deserves to be conserved in perpetuity. The textiles that we bring into our archives, for us, are the masterpieces of today. And these masterworks are on display at salons such as this one, and we find they are even more present in spaces such as Maison d’Exceptions. »
