Exploring new horizons, venturing beyond the known, bringing creativity into the world of tomorrow with a healthy dose of humour and painstaking attention… A font of delicacy and new directions for autumn winter 2019-20.
The creative process takes flight, to lead the way and find the energy to surprise.
Like the season, the work of artist Scarlett Hooft Graafland invites us to journey over new roads, venture beyond borders, and build a pathway to clear and ambitious ideas.
In her photographs, taken in the most remote places of the world, from the salt desert of Bolivia to the desolate Canadian arctic and Yemen’s blistering Socotra, the artist creates surrealistic and carefully choreographed landscapes fusing each environment with its local culture.
Her contemporary visual proposals reflect an interaction between nature and culture, a mirror of our changing world.
“I like traveling to remote places and exploring foreign cultures far away from the Western world. I want to capture an essential aspect of the local community. By showing objects and situations that are isolated, but culturally significant, in their uncontrollable and ever-changing natural surroundings, I try to relate to the essential experience of being.”
