Yukizna, Leather Mosaics

The project began in 2011 under the auspices of a collaboration with Tokyo-based Tama Art University. The Japanese name Yukizna is a contraction of the words yui, signifying plaits or tresses, and kizna, signifying the idea of connections in an affective context. It is a linguistic composition which reflects well the concept developed by Yukizna.
Yukizna produces leather puzzles from a multitude of identical polygonal pieces, with slotted borders allowing them to be laid together to produce different surface and relief effects. The puzzles come in long sheets of leather with hexagonal designs, whose dimensions and materials may be customized. With patience and precision, the artisans hand-lay each piece one-by-one.
From February 16-18, 2016, Yukizna participates in Maison d’Exceptions, the space at Première Vision dedicated to haute création.
