“The notion of Made in France is very important to me and sparks a few debates. I have always manufactured in France, in Italy and partly in Morocco. When I was manufacturing in France at a time when few designers were, everybody complained that clothes were too expensive or found other excuses. I used to answer them that you can’t have it both ways: you can’t have a decent price and a high quality while making Chinese children work in precarious factories… A choice needs to be made.
Twenty years later people are becoming aware of all that but I’m afraid it’s already too late regarding some issues. Many know-how have disappeared and I don’t find the resurgence of arts and crafts to be a main concern to politicians right now.”
