“Yassen Samouilov: I think that there is no evolution in the couture professions without an evolution in savoir-faire. This is the legitimator of haute couture.
Livia Stoianova: What matters to us is not only the preservation of know-how but its growth. We are in the 21st century, we think that the role of a designer is to push the field. We have had the chance to master many techniques. Many things are made by us. We can say that we have the luxury of having the freedom to do what we want.
YS: Last season we tried to introduce something infrequently done: a light that can illuminate slightly translucent handmade embroideries. We wanted a brightness not from phosphorus but from battery-powered LEDs. The fact that batteries are portable allowed for a double life for the clothes, equally wearable in day and night.
LS: Two seasons ago, we worked with scarab wings and it was amazing. This Thai tradition is unknown in France. We worked with thousands of wings from Sternocera scarabs. We also worked on sculptural embroideries using laser-cut plexiglass. Each time, we take a material and let it guide us, revealing a new know-how.
YS: Its atypical aspects, more precisely.”
