Daisuke Kano, Kano-ko, at the Maison d'Exceptions show

“I represent the Kano-Ko company which is based in the Kyoto area, Japan. For 120 years, we have been manufacturing kimono belts called “obis”. First of all, you have to know that an obi has a traditional width of 30 centimeters. We wished to increase that width and at the same time offer a new texture.
We had already been working with leather, but thanks to the new technique that we have developed, we are able to combine this material with silk, which truly allows us to differentiate ourselves from other companies.
When using leather, whether for cutting or weaving, the most important part is to handle it the right way as if often tends to overturn. It is this expertise in leather that defines our know-how and makes us unique.”
