Carina Sohl, at the Maison d'Exceptions show 1/2

“I am working as a leather artist based in Sweden. In our atelier we have developed a technique to hand emboss patterns on leather using natural and organic plants and flowers. I do the design on the leather and then we press the plants down into the leather so that it becomes this relief pattern.
It’s only one of a kind, so the things I do are experimental because it’s new every time and the plants get destroyed during the process, so we use new plants for every pattern. The hand-picking is important because we do it during the summer, from May to October, and we collect the plants, dry them, and store them in our atelier so we can hand-press these leather patterns all year around.”
