Aissa Dione, at the Maison d'Exceptions show 2/3

(English subtitles available)

“My name is Aissa Dione and I am Franco-Senegalese, though my business is entirely based in Senegal. I don’t draw motifs. I am in the workshops alongside weavers and we work together directly. It is a bit of an improvisation. There is an enormous archive of motifs that already exist. The idea was to refine these patterns and diffuse them in a new way in textiles.

I move, I change materials, I change colors, I work with tone on tone. We work a bit like that. There are no pre-established plans unless a client draws me a precise element, in which case we will work to-measure. We worked with Hermès in 1996 as part of their Year of Africa. Ever since, we have continued to create made-to-measure items for decorators.”
