“My name is Aidai Asangulova. I live in Kyrgyzstan. I work with felt. It is a very old tradition in my country. I would like to preserve this technique. The Kyrgyz people have always worked felt. The material has always been a part of nomadic life. As an art and an artisan craft, felt has always been used to adorn homes as well as to create objects, clothing and yurts.
Today, we use three felting techniques, to produce carpets for example. We try to use the traditions of the jadis, but we also rely on modern techniques. Our goal is to respect and preserve traditional practices.”
