Since its establishment in 1999, Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association, also known as VITAS, has been working closely with enterprises, government, and international partners in making strategies and promotion programs for the development of Vietnamese textile and garment industry.

Vietnam is among the top textile producing countries and apparel exporters in the world. In 2019, Vietnam’s garment and textile industry earned US$ 38.9 billion from exports, a year-on-year increase of 7.23%. In 2020, due to the impact of Covid-19 to the whole supply chain, the industry’s export turnover is estimated to attain US$ 35.2 billion, decreasing 9.29% compared to 2019. This result is still higher than some other textile producing countries in the world and raises optimistic prospects for recovery.

At the present, there are more than 7000 textile and garment enterprises operating in Vietnam, employing about 3 million labors.

As the professional organization gathering nearly 800 members who are individuals, businesses, domestic and foreign partner organisms, VITAS plays an increasingly important role in promoting the image of Vietnamese fashion industry, as well as building Vietnam’s textile brand “Quality – Social responsibility – Eco-friendly” to the global market. VITAS organizes annually several delegations to attend professional exhibitions and tradeshow worldwide to present Vietnamese savoir-faire and products, and evaluate the potential development of foreign markets.

VITAS also pays great attention to sustainability in the textile and garment industry. The association established since 2017 a specific committee named Sustainable Development Committee, with the aim of raising awareness of the textile business community in the implementation of the sustainable development strategy in Vietnam.
