Smart Creation AW 20/21

The positive energy, constant progress and growing appetite for innovation witnessed over the past few seasons continue to make waves, ushering in a real turning point for eco-responsible creative approaches. The Autumn Winter 2021-2021 season proposes new developments adapted to all markets and silhouettes. Nothing is overlooked.

Yarns and fibres

The yarns and fibres sector offers exciting perspectives for the seasons to come with the clothes of tomorrow set to materialize from yarns produced from agricultural residues. The new blends attest to the increasingly sophisticated nature of the sustainable offer, including audacious biopolymer combinations such as the ones produced from corn and yak or organic cotton and nettle blends.

Environmentally-friendly fabrics

Environmentally-friendly fabrics accompany the rising quality of tailoring and coat woollens, with particular attention paid to handles. Organic cotton has become so sophisticated it now features in the luxury ranges.

On a more casual, sporty note, eco-friendly knits are now a given in collections, and organic materials are a must in the season’s new fleeces. Technical knits are extensively produced with recycled polyamide and ecologically-sourced fibres, combining comfort and enhanced performance qualities. The sports industry is also showing interest in PFC-free finishings, sustainable membranes and fleeces.

Somewhat more surprisingly, silky products geared to creative and dressy fashions are also broadening their offer, with GOTS-certified organic silks, traceable viscose, eco-friendly discharge prints, organic cotton embroidery and recycled polyamide lace adding environmental value to their technical and visual virtuosity.

Denims, meanwhile, continue their march towards virtuous production cycles, with aniline-free clean indigos produced using minimal water.

A new optimized generation of natural dyes adapts to all mediums, whether synthetic or natural, in a wide range of colours with high stability despite being produced in cold water!

Leather

For leather, wet-white pre-tanning and dyes free of heavy metals are becoming more popular. Alternative rhubarb- or olive-based tanning techniques surface on nappa leather, offering a quality alternative to synthetic or chrome tanning while meeting the most stringent environmental specifications. As for recycled leathers, aspects and handles are becoming more and more compelling and are enriched with a wide range of colours. Advances in recycling techniques has led to an increase in embellishments made from pieces of leather from second-choice skins.

Accessories

Accessories are massively embracing biopolymers, with straps, zip-pulls and stoppers made from cornstarch and bagasse and sustainably-sourced acetate buttons. New materials are compatible with water dyes. Label collections have also expanded to include paper made from straw or bamboo, as well as FSC-certified recycled paper.
