SPORTS & OUTDOOR 27.02.2017 / Best - The buyers' choices
SPORTS & OUTDOOR
The sports and outdoors universe is going openly eco-responsible. For spring summer 18 buyers, a sustainable approach is a key criterion in their textile choices. Up till now buyers were focused on sourcing recycled fibres, now interest is steadily increasing for eco-friendly finishings and organic fibres. This interest, however, never sacrifices aesthetics or fantasy.
Colours navigating between a natural sophistication and a futuristic energy, between vegetal nuances and synthetic lights.
Light as paper
The increase in demand for lightness is dizzying. But while compact fabrics are somewhat overlooked, summer lightness is far from ethereal. Selections are a bit crunchy, solidified by ripstop structures or enlivened by printed designs.
Smoothly suave handles
Fabrics are slippery; nothing sticks to the hand. Vegetal sensations are put aside in favour of the smooth perfection of synthetics. A fluidity and suppleness that slides between the fingers point to a more feminine active-sports approach.
Gleaming and glossy
There’s a sharp increase in bold shine over matt aspects. A casual spirit is losing influence in this sector, which is turning to visuals with bolder appeal. Like ultra-shiny membraned knits or fabrics covered with wet-reflection coatings.
Highly expressive wrinklings
This season, fabric choices for outdoor-wear are bold! Textiles chosen for blousons and rain gear have frankly wrinkled aspects. And they aren’t quiet either: “crunchy” fabrics tempted buyers.
Classic camouflage loses ground. The quest for simplicity, which is at the heart of spring summer 18, is reflected in the sports buyers’ choices for sharp, contrasting patterns. Stripes and diamonds in breathable knits for swimsuits found favour, and stood out on double-faces with boldly decorated backs.
